April Fool’s Day is celebrated all over the world on 1st of April every year. In this day people play different types of practical jokes, hoaxes or pranks on family members, work associates, friends, neighbors, etc. If the person falls prey to the joke then that person is referred to as an ‘April Fool’. April Fool’s Day has become quite popular in India and these days many people can be seen playing jokes and pranks on their friends and families.

April Fool’s Day Origin :

Although there are several stories which tell about the origins of April Fool’s Day, but one of the most popular stories is that in the ancient times the Gregorian calendar was introduced to the people as a result of which the dates of holidays got changed.  But still there were several people who were still following the older Julian calendar.

Other interesting story about April Fool’s Day is that when King Charles IX of France replaced April 1 by January 1 to be the first day of the year, many people still followed the older system and considered April 1 to be the first day of the year.

In some countries like UK, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand the jokes last only till the noon. A person who plays joke after noon is considered to be ‘April Fool’ himself. Whereas in counties like the Italy, Russia, France, Germany, Netherlands, South Korea, U.S., Australia, Brazil, and Ireland the joke may last till the end of the day.

April Fool’s Day in India is pretty popular among the kids and the youth. The most common type of joke is to either make the victim believe in something which didn’t happen at all or to make him look at something which is not

present. When the victim falls prey to the joke, the trickster shouts April Fool. These days we can see several online card sites for this purpose and some of the people also like to buy gifts for this purpose.
