Baisakhi Festival

It is one of the major festivals of Sikhs, celebrated on 13/ 14 April every year. Baisakhi is also known as Vaisakhi. The villagers of Punjab, Punjabi rock to the beats of drums & celebrate the day with lot of fun. People celebrate with different style. The whole day people listen to the religious kirtan. People wear colorful new clothes. Everyone comes to the gurudwara for the great Langer.

The women wear salwar kameez to perform gidda and the men wear traditional bangra dress to dance on Punjabi folk songs. On this day people prepare Halwa and several tasty things at home. The Sikkhs celebrate Baisakhi festival as a New Year day. It has been marked very significant religious event of the making of Khalsa. Guru Govind Singh said Sikhs to wear and keep five K’s : kesh or long hair, kangha or comb, kripan or dagger, kachha or shorts & a Kada or bracelet in hand.

Guru Govind Singh gave the men surname as Singh (Lion) to every Sikh and Sikh women surname as Kaur (Princess.)
