Lord Bramha

with Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva is known as Trimurti. In Brahma Purana he is mentioned as the father of Manu, from whom all the human beings have descended. He has also been mentioned in famous Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata as the progenitor of all human beings. Lord Brahma has three wives, Saraswati, Davitri and Gayatri. These three wives of Lord Brahma are Vedic Goddesses and are referred to as Vedamata, which means Mother of the Vedas. Lord Brahma is also popularly known as Prajapati.

According to Hindu mythologies Lord Brahma created four Chatursana or the Kumaras. These four Kumaras refused Lord Brahma’s order to procreate and instead lived a life of celibacy and devoted themselves to God. Lord Brahma then created ten sons from his mind known as Prajapatis, who are considered to be the fathers of human race. According to Manusmriti and Bhagavat Purana, these ten sons of Lord Brahma were; Marici, Atri, Angira, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, Vasistha, Daksa, Bhrgu and Narada. The children of Lord Brahma are called Manas Putras, which means mind-sons because all of them were born out of his mind. There were other offspring of Lord Brahma who were born out of his body. These offspring of Lord Brahma were Adharma, Dharma, Krodha, Lobha and several others.

It has been mentioned in the puranas that Lord Brahma was self born in a Lotus flower. Other legends mention his to be born in water. It describes about a seed which takes the form of Golden egg. From this Golden egg Lord Brahma was born as Hiranyagarbha. Since Lord Brahma was born in water, he is also known

as Kanja (born in water).
