Float Festival Celebration In Tamilnadu
Float Festival is celebrated January - february every year in the full moon night at Madurai Tamilnadu. On this occasion marriage of the god Sundaresa(incarnation of Shiva) & the goddess Meenakshi (incarnation of Parvati).
On this festival pearl crowns on their heads and riding on a golden bull and taken out in a colourful procession from the Meenakshi temple.
On this day the God Alagar (incarnation of Vishnu) giving his sister(Meenakhi) in marriage to Sundaresa.
In procession yellow and red coloured water spray on among the Pilgrims who crowd and dance. flowers and burning lamps with sound of traditional music are also part of this procession. The Pond (tank) is connected to river Vaigai through underground side. The granite steps leading down to the tank on all sides. The shrine was build by Tirumala Nayak. This festival attracts pilgrims from all over the country.
