Thrissur Pooram is one of the biggest of all the festivals held in Kerala. It is celebrated every year in the month of mid April to mid May in Kerala. Every year gods and goddesses of different temple meet together for Thrissur Pooram Festivals in Kerala. It is a 36 hours festival; people come from different places including international tourists.

Thrissur Pooram at Kerala :

In Kerala Thiruvampadi and ParamKkavu are the two temples to make this festival an outstanding one. Dates of Thrissur Pooram festival at Kerala are decided according to the Malayalam calendar. The festival is held in the Vadakkumnatha temple, an example of the Kerala style of architecture.

The Pooram starts at the time of Kanimaglam Sasthavu in the morning and followed by the ezhunnellippu of other six temples. On 2’0 clock in Vadakkumnatha temple festival starts by playing drums, trumpets, pipe & cymbal. Two days before Pooram in Kerala, a huge exhibition of elephant decorations is held at both temples. The Pooram has a good collection of elephants (more than 50 elephants) decorated with golden head dress, decorative bells, ornaments & the umbrella as which improve the beauty of elephants & Pooram.

The two groups in the Melam replace colorful and crafted umbrellas at the top of the elephants called Kudamattam, which attracts the people. The Pooram concludes with bright display of the fireworks in the evening, which continues till late hours of the next morning. On this day, people prepare special recipes of food such as rice, mutton curry or spicy chicken also called as shagoti and some sweets. After playing with colors, people used to eat all these special food delights and enjoy a lot.

In Panjim, a huge pageant is carried out on this day which is the most interesting factor of Holi celebration in Goa. Troupes give their performances and cultural drama is performed based on religious and mythological stories. This also gives children a chance to know about the religious stories associated with the festival and come closer to their culture.
