Chaitra Navratri in 2014 is on 31 March and will continue for 8 days until Friday, the 10 April. Chaitra Navratri is also
known as Vasanta Navratri. Chaitra Navratri is nine days festival, which starts on the first day of Hindu calendar. It is celebrated in the months of March or April. Chaitra is the first month of Hindu calendar. Vasanta Navratri is also known as Rama Navratri. All nine days of Navratri are dedicated to nine forms of Goddess Shakti.
This Chaitra Navratri is more popular in India. Navratri is a Hindu festival of worship and dance. These festivals of nine nights in Hinduism are referred to Goddess Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. It is also known as Spring Navratri or Basant Navratri. As this Navratri relates with Ram Navami, it also referred as Ram Navratri.
All nine days the devotees of Devi keep fast. On end of the Navratri, the devotees invite group of nine girls for the lunch as representing Durga. The head of the family washes their feet; provide a meal as halwa, puris, black chana and yogurt with
