Maha Shivaratri Festival is celebrated as a great night of lord Shiva by the people of all around the country. It is a huge spiritual festival which is entirely devoted to lord Shiva. Devotees believed that this auspicious day is commemorates the marriage day of god Shiva and goddess Parvati.
According to Hindu calendar Maha Shivaratri is observed on the fourteenth night of the new moon in the Phalgun month that is parallel to the February-March month, according to English calendar.
Celebrating Maha Shivaratri :
Devotees traditionally observed a tough fast without water and food on this occasion. Some people go through a diet of milk and fruits on this day. It supposed a true worship of lord Shiva.
It is believed that a person can regret for his sins by doing a sincere worship of lord Shiva. It is presumed that a ritual dips in the Ganga River is auspicious. It is also a best day for women to pray lord Shiva.
Married women possessed a worship and fast for happiness of their husbands and families. Unmarried women pray to god Shiva for an ideal husband like lord Shiva.
