Jaipur is well known for its history of kings and prince and being a royal state it has a bond with many festivals. Jaipur is well known for its fairs and festivals.

Festivals of Jaipur Rajasthan :

The city is considered to be a colorful city and with so many fairs and festivals the city looks even brighter. The city of Jaipur observes many festivals during a year and some fairs are celebrated in an unusual way. One of the most famous festivals of Jaipur is Elephant festival. This festival is celebrated on the day of Holi and adds a unique spark by its unusual concept.

The Elephants are dressed in a traditional manner and made to catwalk in front of people. The festival includes traditional dance performances and various other activities like Elephant race, Elephant polo matches and even a tug of war between men and Elephants.

Gangaur is another important festival which holds special significance for women. This festival is even celebrated in various parts of Rajasthan and is celebrated by fasting and performing rituals. In Jaipur, a special sweet dish called Ghewar is famous for distribution among relatives and friends. A procession is also moved in the parts of city and people come in large number to witness the ritual.

Kite festival is another enjoyable festival. People of all age groups turn in to fly kites and enjoy the festive mood. The day of Makar Sankranti is the most auspicious day for kite flying and is the official day of kite flying in the city. Teej is also celebrated with full enthusiasm in Jaipur and people fast and a procession of Teej idol is also carried away in the city. Jaipur has a wide variety of culture and traditions and is indeed a land of festivals too.
