International Family Day, International Day of Families, The Core of Society

The International Day of Families is celebrated on the 15th of May every year. The importance of this day is the international community attaches to family. The International Day provides an opportunity to promote alertness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic processes touching families.

The International Day of Families is an international celebration and not a public holiday. The International Day of Families has inspired a series of awareness-raising events, including national family days.

Activities include workshops and conferences, radio and television programme, newspaper articles and cultural programs to raise awareness of the annual themes. International Day of Family creates the awareness about the importance of family among the people. All programs are organized by United Nations. United Nations is the division for social policy and development. On this day different campaigns are launched to strengthen and support family units.

The year 1994 was declared as International year of families by United Nations and will stress the importance of having healthy and happy relationships with your relatives. Its aim is to develop equality, sharing of family responsibility and employment opportunities.

They have a tendency to promote the inbuilt strengths of families, including their great capacity of self dependence, and motivate self-satisfying activities. Family constitutes the basic unit of society. The widest possible protection and support should be accorded to families so that they fully imagine their responsibilities. A wide range of events are organized at local, national and international levels.

The educational sessions are organized for children and young people and the launch of campaigns for public policies to strengthen and support family units. The symbol of the International Day of Families consists of a solid

green circle with an image in red. The image consists of fundamentals of simple drawings of a heart and a house. This indicates that families are the center of society and provide a constant and supporting home for people of all ages.
