Maha Shivaratri Festival is of the great festival of Hinduism. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is celebrated in all parts of the country with a massive verve and excitement.

It commemorates the night of lord Shiva’s ‘Tandav Nritya’. People also believed that the day marks marry of lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. This day takes place on the sixth night of dark Phalgun month. It is also known as a ‘night of lord Shiva’.

Rituals And Customs of Maha Shivaratri Festival :

1. There are many rituals and customs related to lord Shiva. They are followed honestly and submissively by the devotees. Some rituals are given in the below-

2. Some devotees go through rigorous fast on this occasion. Even they are not drink water. Some of the devotees of lord Shiva observe a fast with light diet of fruits and milk.

3. On this occasion devotees extremely believed that an honest worship forgives a person that posses sins and release him from the rebirth cycle.

4.  The day supposed auspicious for the women. Married women worshipped lord Shiva for welfare of their husbands and unmarried women worshipped lord Shiva for an ideal husband.

5. In the early morning devotees take a traditional bath in the sacred Ganga River. It is believed very auspicious on this day.
