Maha Shivaratri Festival this Year:
Maha Shivaratri Festival is such a grand religious festival of Hindu religion. At the time of Krishna Paksha, it occurred on
the 14th night of Phalgun month according to the Hindu calendar. The Sanskrit word ‘Krishna Paksha’ is referred as a declining of the moon.
According to the English calendar the day is observed in the February-March month. It is celebrated in the memory of the wedding day of god Shiva and deity Parvati. However, many devotees believed that on this night lord Shiva did the ‘Tandav Nritya’. The dance is a sign of primitive formation, conservation and demolition.
In the early morning people take a bath and they wears new clothes. After that they visits their local temples of lord Shiva to give a traditional bath which is called ‘Abhishek’ to the Shiva Ling with the mixture of milk, sour milk, gau-mutra, dung and butter. The mixture is called as a ‘Panchagavya’ (panchamrit). Mainly the celebrations observed at night. The entire night is devoted to lord Shiva.
A mass of devotees gathered in the Shiva temples and they spend full night by singing bhajans, hymns and mantras in the honor of lord Shiva. Women also pray to goddess Parvati on this occasion.
