Mahanavami is the last 9th day celebration of Navaratra Mahotsav or festival In India. On this day Goddess Maa Shiddidatri is worshiped for knowledge and education. In Rajasthan, Gujarat, UP, Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana “Kanya – pooja” are done at different places.

Nine child girls are worshiped on this day in forms of nine incarnation of Goddess Durga. People washes feet of these girls, says them for proper sitting like Goddess. Then they offer fresh food including Sweets and new clothes to those nine girls as gifts.

Last day of Navratra is the “Mahanavami”- means best ever Navami in Hindu calendar days. On this day Animal Sacrifice (Bali) can also performed at many places by devotees of goddess Durga Maa. In many rural places of north west India “Dhaan” (Crops) are immersed into the river. In south India tools, machines, Instrument and books are worshiped on this day. Statue of Goddess Durga is immersed into sea, lakes or river after a grand level function with singing bhajans and dancing.
