Maharana Pratap Jayanti Celebration In Memory of Great Ruler of Mewar :
Maharana Pratap was one of the great rulers of Mewar who gained widespread honor and respect due to his bravery, sacrifice and patriotism. To honor this great son of Mewar, every year Maharana Pratap Jayanti, also known as Maharana Pratap Memorial Day is celebrated in Udaipur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh and neighboring places. This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap.
Importance of Maharana Pratap Jayanti In Mewar, Rajasthan :
According to the history of Mewar, Maharana Pratap was born in Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan on 9thof May, 1540. Maharana Udai Singh
II was his father and Rani Jeevant Kanwa, his mother. Maharana Pratap was from Sisodiya Rajput clan. He was a true Kshatriya who gave Akbar a hard time conquering Chittor. Although, life was full of struggles for Maharana but he never gave up and kept on fighting the tyranny of Mughal army. One incident that Maharana could never forget was the slaughter of 30,000 innocent people of Chittor by Akbar’s men. This incident played a major role in making Pratap more determined to put an end to the cruelty of Akbar and his Mughal army.
Who can forget the great battle of Haldighati. Pratap’s men were outnumbered by the large army of Akbar, but still Pratap and his men displayed brave exploits in the battle. Many brave Rajput warriors sacrificied their life in this battle fighting for their motherland. Although, Pratap lost this battle, but in a long run he managed to win the war against Akbar and his army.
Maharana Pratap Jayanti is a grand event, which is celebrated on 3rd day of Jyestha Shukla phase every year. The Maharana Pratap Memorial Day witnesses numerous cultural programs, special pujas, processions, debates and many more. This is an event when people from different places and clans come together to honor and celebrate the birth anniversary of this great son of Mewar.
