Lord Vishnu is one of the supreme gods of Hindu religion. He is known as the preserver and protector of creation. According to the Vishnu Sahasranama, he is referred to as supreme soul (Paramatman) and supreme god (Parameshwara). In puranas Lord Vishnu is portrayed as having the divine color of water with four hands, holding chakra, shankha, lotus and mace. In Bhagavad Gita Lord Vishnu is mentioned as having a Vishvarupa form (Universal Form).

Lord Vishnu is often shown resting on his coiled serpent Shesha with Lakshmi, his consort massaging his feet. There is a balance of good and evil in the world, but whenever the evil gets the upper hand and the balance is disturbed, Lord Vishnu incarnates in a form of human to restore balance in the world.

Avatars of Lord Vishnu :

There are ten major avatars of Lord Vishnu:

  • Matsya Avatar (Fish incarnation) – This is the first incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In this form he saves saint Vaivaswata.
  • Kurma Avatar (Turtle incarnation) – This is the second incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In this avatar Lord Vishnu offered his back as a pivot during the churning of the sea.
  • Varaha Avatar (Boar incarnation) – This is the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In this avatar Lord Vishnu killed Hiranyaksha.
  • Narasingha Avatar (Lion incarnation) – This is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In this avatar Lord Vishnu killed the demon Hiranyashasipu.
  • Vamana Avatar (Dwarf incarnation) – This is the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In this incarnation Lord Vishnu kills the demon Bali.
  • Parasurama Avatar- This is the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In this incarnation he kills King Kartavirya, who had stolen Kamadhenu a holy cow.
  • Rama Avatar- This is the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In this incarnation Lord Vishnu kills the demon Ravana who has kidnapped his wife Sita.
  • Krishna Avatar- This is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In this incarnation he kills Kansa.
  • Buddha Avatar- This is the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is incarnated in this form to remove suffering from the world.
  • Kalki Avatar- This is the tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu which is still yet to come at the end of Kaliyuga.

Sahastrarjun Jayanti is also known as Sahasra Arjuna Jayanti. Sahasra Arjuna was the great king of ancient time of India. About him it is mentioned in Hindu Purans and Vedas. Sahasra Arjuna was also called as Sahastra Bahu and Kartikvirya. Sahasra Arjuna Jayanti observe each of the year on the seventh day of waxing phase of moon in the month of Kartik of Hindu calendar.

Sahasra Arjuna was the owner of thousands arms. There is a saying Sahasra Arjuna was the incarnation of a weapon Sudarshan Chakra of lord Vishnu. There is another myth that he had defeated a demon Rawan in a war. Sahasra Arjuna was once stolen a magical cow from Jamadagni ashram. In a war Sahasra Arjuna killed Maharshi Jamadagni. Jamadagni was the father of lord Parashurama the sixth incarnation of lord Vishnu. Than lord Parashurama killed Sahasra Arjuna’s clan 21 times.

Celebration of Sahasra Arjuna :

Each of the Sahasra Arjuna celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm in various parts of country. Kansara Samaj and Sahasrarjun Kshatriya Samaj in India observe or celebrated this festival each of the year with a fasting day. They also perform various ritual acts.

Sahasra Arjuna Jayanti In Year 2011: 2 November

Sahastrarjun Jayanti is a major festival or celebration for Kansara community or Sahasrarjun Kshatriya community and they celebrate it on seventh day of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. In year 2011 the date of Sahasra Arjuna Bahu Jayanti will be 2  November.
