Maha Shivaratri Festival is a one of the great divine occasion of Hinduism. It is celebrated with a grand vivacity by the people in all parts of the country. In Hindu calendar, it takes place in the Phalgun month and according to English calendar, it observed in the February-March month.

Many traditional and ritual things are done by the people like early bath in the holy river, devotees gives a bath to Shiva Lingam with Panchamrit mixture etc.

The Panchamrit mixture contains milk, honey, sour milk, sandalwood paste and rose water. People worship and pray to god Shiva for his blessings and discard their negativity.

Maha Shivaratri Festival is celebrated as a great night of lord Shiva by the people of all around the country. It is a huge spiritual festival which is entirely devoted to lord Shiva. Devotees believed that this auspicious day is commemorates the marriage day of god Shiva and goddess Parvati.

According to Hindu calendar Maha Shivaratri is observed on the fourteenth night of the new moon in the Phalgun month that is parallel to the February-March month, according to English calendar.

Devotees traditionally observed a tough fast without water and food on this occasion. Some people go through a diet of milk and fruits on this day. It supposed a true worship of lord Shiva.
