Uttarayan is also known as Makar Sankranti. On this day the sky full of kites. The festival of Uttarayan is one of the oldest festivals. Makar Sankranti is one of the best occasions for the Hindus and is celebrated in almost all parts of India. In
Gujarat Uttarayan is a holiday for government and private sectors. People of all ages fly kites from morning to evening. People gathered on the rooftops and celebrate the Makar Sankranti by flying kites, dancing on loud volume and having meal together. Makar Sankranti is also the coming of spring in India.
The festival is celebrated on 14 or 15 January. Uttarayan is known as the day of new good healthy wealthy beginning of a year. The months before the festival of Uttarayan are celebrated. All children have completions with their neighbors by flying kites. Thousands of kites are prepared in the market. The kites are made of different shapes and designs, some of the kites are made of plastic polythene. On this day people make Till Laddoos (sesame seeds), jalebi (sweets) for guests. These sweets are prepared for Makar Sankranti Day.
The International Kite Festival held’s every year. People come from Australia, Japan, USA, Canada and European Countries to participate in the International Kite Festival. People wish their family members and friends on this special day of Sankranti by sending SMS, text messages or greetings.
