Varuthini Ekadashi is also called as Baruthani Ekadashi. Varuthini Ekadashi falls in the month of April-May. It is also known as Vaishakh Krishna Ekadashi. On Varuthini Ekadashi, the god Vishnu his fifth avatar Vamana is worshipped. The followers
of Varuthini Ekadashi have observed that by keeping the complete fast god will bless them with happiness, success and prosperity. The people perform various types of charities on this day. The day before Varuthini Ekadashi is known as Dashami day. The devotees keep vrat on this day to protect from all damage and immorality and gain luck. On this day the devotees give fruits and clothes to small girls known as kanya.
The Hindu women observe Varuthini Ekadashi vrat to be an important festival because they believe the vrat is a step towards a lucky time of life. By observing the fast will be effectively holy with improvement known as ‘Moksha’. Devotees eat food like urad dal, chickpeas, spinach and honey.
On this day a single meal is taken. Also meals are served on a call metal shield. The devotees also control themselves from including in gambling and sex. On the day of Varuthini Ekadashi the day is spent at home reading holy books such as Bhagavada, Purana. The rice, onion, spinach, and betel nuts and leaves are avoided. People generally keep alert during the daytime and at night as well. Varunithi Ekadashi is also known as Dwadasi day, the same program is followed as that on Dashami. Men keep away from shaving and the followers keeps vrat also.
