Vibhishana since his very childhood used to spend time in meditation on the name of Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma was impressed by his devotion and finally gave his darshan to Vibhishana. He asked Vibhishana to wish for a boon. All he wished for was to fix his mind on Lord’s lotus feet and serve Lord Vishnu. This is how he later came to serve Lord Rama, who was the avatar of Lord Vishnu.
