His Holiness Dalai Lama:

The name of present day His Holiness Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso. He is the 14th Dalai Lama and he heads the state of Tibet He is also the spiritual leader of people of Tibet. His Holiness was born as Lhamo Dhondrub on 6 July 1935. He took birth in a small peasant family of a village called Taktser which is the northeastern Tibet. His Holiness was merely two years old when he was recognized as the reincarnation of 13th Dalai Lama.

This was in accordance with Tibetan tradition that he was recognized as a successor to his predecessor and therefore an incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion.

The enthronement ceremony of 14th Dalai Lama took place on February 22, 1940 in Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. His Holiness began his education in Tibet at the age of six which came to a completion at the age of 25 and he was subsequently granted the Doctorate of Buddhist Philosophy. But before he could complete his studies, he was called upon to head the state and government of Tibet in 1950. Since 1960, His Holiness has been residing in Dharamsals which is also known as Little Lhasa. It is also called the seat of Tibetan Government-in-exile.

Dalai Lama has met with most of the leaders in this world and spoken at various political, religious, and world peace gatherings. Many of his quotes and wise words are used by people across the world when they look for inspiration and motivation. In fact, there are many universities and educational institutions that adopt his philosophies. His Holiness was conferred the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 and many other awards and honorary Doctorate degrees by various institutes for his contribution to conflict resolution, human rights, and world environmental problems.

The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.
