Muslim Culture and Tradition of India:

Every civilization has its own culture and traditions which are carried down through centuries and become the pillars of its existence. Muslims have their unique culture and traditions which have become the trade mark of Muslims all over the world. Muslims are so widespread that it is difficult to bind them into a single culture. Nevertheless, all Muslim culture and traditions revolve around Muslim religion and Quran.

All the Muslim festivals have originated from the life of its founder prophet Mohammed. Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha are some of the religious festivals originating from events occurring in the life of Mohammed. Even their marriages are considered very sacred and considered half of religion.

Muslims are forbidden to practice image art or architecture. Their art consists of geometrical designs enhanced with calligraphy and floral designs. Muslim architecture is famous for its unique style of domes, fortress, palaces and minarets. Religion dominates the arena of Muslim music. Music is mainly composed to express religious faiths and feelings. Qawwalis are the most famous and Sufis has used music to spread the words of Allah all over the world.

All over the world, the Muslims follow traditions derived from the teachings of Mohammed. The non-followers of these traditions are criticized immensely. The most common traditions are:

  1. There is but only one god, Prophet Mohammed and Muslims worship only this god known as Shahadah.
  2. Muslims are to pray at least five times a day which is known as Salah.
  3. The affluent Muslims are expected to share their wealth and food with those who are less wealthy which is known as Zakat.
  4. Sawn, the month long fasting during Ramadan is a must for all Muslims.
  5. A Muslim is considered a true Muslim and the favourite of Mohammed if he is able to perform Haj, which is the holy pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.
