Mahavir Jayanti Jain Festival :

Mahaveer Jayanti is mainly a Jain festival which is celebrated to memorize the birth of Jain saint named Mahavir. He got birth in a small town named Vaishali as Vardhamana in 540 B.C. So, this festival is celebrated every year on 13th may, birth date of saint Mahavir with full enthusiasm. According to history, he was the 24th teerthankara and was the founder of Jain religion.

On the day of Mahavir Jayanti, decoration of jain temples is done with flags and abhishek (ceremonial bath) of Lord Mahavir is done in the morning. In Jainism, Lord Mahavir is the idol who taught the essence of life to people and also told about the right way to live life. This festival is celebrated with full enthusiasm all over India. On this day, Jain people offer rice, milk, fruits, lamps, etc to poor people.

All the people of Jain community participate in the grand celebration with full dedication. In temples, priests also give lectures about saint Mahavir. People say prayers and pray for their well-being. Some people also collect donations to help poor people and to save cows. It is very great to see the celebrations of Mahavir Jayanti at famous jain temples situated at Pawapuri, Parsvanath and Kundalpur.

So, lord Mahavir was an excellent teacher who taught the right path of happiness to people. So, Mahavir jayanti is celebrated as a very auspicious day all over the country but it is more popular in the place like old Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujrat where you can find the sizeable amount of people following the jain religion.

Mahavir Jayanti is entirely dedicated to lord Mahavir Swami. He was the twenty fourth tirthankar of Jainism. Mahavir Jayanti is observed in the month of Chaitra. He is also known as a father of Jain philosophy. A spiritual holiday is celebrated on this day. Swetambara supposed that he was bear in 599 BC and Digambara believe that it was in 615 BC.
