Meditation has been one of the major principles in the Buddhist religion. According to the Buddhist beliefs, meditation leads to enlightment. Buddhism strongly propagates the meditation techniques for every individual to attain peace of mind and tranquillity.

Buddhist Meditation Techniques:

There are two basic techniques that Buddhists encourage. The first technique is called Samatha and the second technique is known as Vipassana. Let us discuss these two techniques in detail. Samatha plainly means concord or serenity. With the help of this technique a person can fully achieve peace of mind. In this method the main purpose of the person is to establish concentration of the mind. There are plenty of subjects that a person has to choose from in order to establish the concentration.

The subjects vary from different coloured discs, to candles, water etc, and a range of physical decompose. After this state, breathing technique is established. In the breathing technique, known as Anapansati, the person trains to allow his body and mind to calm. When the person concentrates on one particular phase in his mind, the five main obstacles of his life like doubt, anxiety, sluggishness, hostility and bodily desires will take a temporary exit in his life. This state in turn leads the person to contentment and achievement, which is known as Jhanas. But this is still not the state of enlightment.

The next technique is known as Vipassana, which means insight. This method allows a person to see things exactly like they are. he should try and get rid of any form of distaste about anything in life that can influence his logical thinking. He should be aware of the facts as they are, and not try to fabricate the truth. This state is known as Vipassana, the insight of how things are. this state will surely guide you to the ultimate stage of enlightened .
