 Festivals and Fairs of Rajasthan:

The state of Rajasthan is known as the Desert Jewel. There is a lot of liveliness and gaiety during the times when there are fairs and festivals in this state. The people of Rajasthan celebrate each occasion, whether it’s a change of season or harvest time, there is a reflection of genuine happiness in the music that is played. There is an element of genius in all their works of art and crafts and they have rich ascetic refinement.

Though the fairs and festivals are organized all round the year in Rajasthan, there are some important occasions that are worth mentioning here.  Pushkar Fair is organized every year in the month of November. Pushkar is an important pilgrimage of Rajasthan and it is also known for the largest cattle fair. There are bazaars, auctions, music, and various sports activities that mark this fair.

The Desert Festival of Jaisalmer is one of the most popular festivals of Rajasthan. It is held in the months of January and February and it marks the journey into the heart of golden Jaisalmer. There are folk performers, ballad singers, snake charmers, puppeteers and many other exciting traditional skills on display during this festival. The festival comes to an end with a show of light and sound on a moonlit night.

Gangaur festival is held in the months of March and April. This is a 18 day festival where young girls pray to Goddess Parvati for a groom of their choice and the married ladies pray for the well-being of their husbands.
