Ramadan :

During this month long fasting, every Muslim is expected to spend the maximum time chanting the Quran or visiting the mosques besides the 5 times of daily prayer.

The basic reason of this month long fasting is the purification of the soul. Fasting enhances the virtues of tolerance and self-discipline in a person. When a soul is purified then Allah is appeased and the beholder of the purified soul is blessed by him. The fasters are expected to follow a list of things that are prohibited during this month-long fast which included no smoking, no drinking, honesty, kindness, charity, forgiveness are all practiced by all Muslims. Eating meat and keeping sexual relationships are also a taboo.

The rules that are expected to be followed by the fasters, purifies their soul, be-generates them to become a better person and a better worker. The 29-30 days of fasting ends the excitement of Id preparations. This is time for joyous celebration which brings families together to enjoy each every moment of this wondrous festival.

Ramadan ends with Eid celebrations. Markets get overcrowded and the shopkeepers serve the excited customers with a smile. All the things that make a festival complete are obtained by each and every Muslim. New clothes, good food, thoughtful gifts, the decorative streets with tinsel are all part of festivity. Non-Muslims also take part in their festival with their Muslim neighbours and friends.
