Sharad Purnima In India:

Sharad Purnima is the celebration of wealth and beauty. Sharad Purnima also called Kaumudi Purnima means – moonlight. “Sharad” is one of three season according to Hindu calendar and stands for winter session.

On this night Moon which is the symbol of beauty present with full moonlight ever in the year. A fool moon day of month Ashwin (Sep. – Oct.) is celebrated as Sharad Purnima festival.

It’s also called Kojagari purnima. Kojagari stands for “Who is awake”. Means this night is for vigilant. It’s assumed that goddess Laxmi come door to door of house and give bless to people who awake whole night and worship her. So People worship goddess Laxmi by sitting at open space under moonlight of full moon. Moonlight of this night is also assumed as immortality.
People avoid strong food and take only coconut water and milk on this day. In Orissa and some other parts of eastern India Kumar or Kartikeya Purnima is celebrated.
