Tamil New Year is celebrated in Chitthirai month which is usually starts from 14th of April. people from Tamil nadu wishes each other by saying “Puthandu Vazthukal”. this day is very auspicious occasion for tamil people all over.
It is said that god Brahma started creating of the world on this day of chitthirai month. there are so many sayings and stories behind this day. people goes for ritual bath and then they go to temples to get blessings of god for them and their family.
People wish good fortune for the year this day. women makes Artistic Kolam Designs at doorstep of home with rice powder. Some organisation prepare cultural programs and small fairs also on this day at towns.
